George Washington Carver is a famous African American. He was born as a slave in Missouri. He was allowed to attend high school and later college. He was really interested in the study of plants. He was invited to be a teacher at the famous Tuskegee Institute by Booker T. Washington.
George Washington Carver is best known for his knowledge and creative uses of peanuts and other foods. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops both as a source of their own food and as a source of other products to improve their quality of life. He died January 5, 1943.
He won many awards and we still use many of the products he created like bleach, mayonnaise, and peanut butter. Can you imagine life without peanut butter?
